featured project

The PLANTWAVE Team consisting of Ayşenur Sucu and Dilara Özdil from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Taha Türedi and Mehmet Bal from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Nurhan Yalçın and İlayda Bağcı from the Department of Plant Production and Technologies, who were supervised by Asst. Prof. Dilek Killi Haworth from the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, placed 5th in Turkey in the TEKNOFEST-2022 Final, in the Agricultural Technologies category, with its project “Detection of Existing or Potential Diseases Based on Signals Received from Plants”. With the help of the device that has been developed for the early detection of agricultural diseases and pests, which is one of the most important problems in the field of food and agriculture; it has been analyzed that there is a significant difference between the signals received from healthy, newly infected and highly diseased plants, and thanks to this difference, it has become possible to detect diseases and pests at an early stage even in plants that have not yet shown symptoms. Thanks to the mobile application, which determines the parcel to be measured by the farmer according to the characteristics of the plant and the spread strategy of the disease, convenience is also provided for the fields with large areas, and the areas at risk of disease in the field are determined simultaneously, and warnings are given so that the farmers can take precautions. In the project, which focuses on root rot in sugar beet and pests in tomato, in the following stages, R&D studies on the development of plant and disease libraries, treatment studies for sick plants with detection, and immunity development for plants that are not yet sick continue. We congratulate our students and their supervisors and wish them continued success.
