Our DMT INFORMATIK Team Earned The Right To Participate In The Final Stage With A Score Of 93.33 In The TEKNOFEST 2022 Artificial Intelligence In Health Category With Its Projects On Bioinformatic Analysis Of Outputs Obtained From DNA Sequencing Platforms

featured project

Our DMT Bioinformatics team consists of our senior students Dila Nur Çakal and Mevlüt Köz from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and our senior student at the Department of Bioengineering Mehmet Tevfik Kara, supervised by our Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences Kıvanç Bilecen. Our team got the right to participate in the final stage to be held in Ordu in July 2022, with their projects on bioinformatic analysis of the outputs obtained from new generation DNA sequencing platforms, by getting 93.33 points in the TEKNOFEST 2022 Artificial Intelligence in Health Contest. Our students' project aims to visualize DNA sequences faster and more accurately with an artificial intelligence-based approach in metagenomic data analysis, which is used in the identification of microorganisms in many fields, especially health. In the first stage of the analysis process, which consists of two stages, DNA sequences obtained from new generation DNA sequencing platforms are visualized and the family of organisms they belong to is quickly determined with the artificial intelligence approach. In the second stage, unique organism detection is performed faster and more accurately with a BLAST-based algorithm on this narrowed data set. Thanks to this hybrid approach based on DNA visualization and artificial intelligence, one of the main objectives of the project is to shorten the processing time in standard office computers and to obtain more accurate results with less processing power compared to standard algorithms in the evaluation of 16S/18S rRNA, ITS or whole genome metagenomic study data. We congratulate our students and their advisors and wish them success in the TEKNOFEST 2022 finals.
